Position Summary
A substitute teacher is an individual who, in the absence of the classroom teacher, is responsible for providing instruction and managing the learning environment. The substitute teacher reports to the principal or designee at the location to which they are assigned.
Job Duties
Day to day job duties of a substitute teacher is determined by the classroom teacher or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), student(s), and/or school district.
These Extended Term positions will run from November 2, 2020, through the end of the school year*.
Lesson plans, grades, and other duties performed by the classroom teacher will also be required.
*Positions may end sooner based on the needs of the schools.
These positions will pay $200/day.
BTSD is using a "Hybrid" teaching model+ during the pandemic. All virtual education will take place from a school building.
+Hybrid model consists of both in-person and virtual education methods.
Substitute teachers of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The substitute teacher must comply with the duties outlined by the classroom teacher, principal, or designee.
Qualifications and Required Documents
- An active/valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certification or PA Emergency Certification
- A Letter of Intention
- A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
- A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old **

- An FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 1 year old **

- Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months

Training
If you have taken any mandated training for Act 126 (Mandated Reporting) and/or Act 71 (Suicide Prevention), please provide proof of training-preferably a certificate of completion. Please include any additional certificates for specialized training (i.e. Crisis Prevention Intervention). If not, it will be supplied to you.
Essential Function
Substitute teaching is an essential part of the educational process. Each school year all districts will look to build a workforce of substitute teachers to help aid their teachers and allow them to be replaced in times of need for the district. Each school district will rely on a qualified and enthusiastic group of sub’s that can step-up and continue the educational process in the absence of a teacher. It’s essential that the substitute teacher continues the primary teacher’s lesson plan so that the curriculum plan at hand continues to be carried out.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule, student or district need, and include but are not limited to:
• Reports to the office upon arrival for check-in and reviews the plans and schedules for the day.
• Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about school personnel.
• Assumes the responsibility for overseeing student behavior in the classroom, during lunch, activity periods, and out-of-class settings.
• Executes instructional activities with individual students or small groups of students following the absent teacher's lesson plans.
• Provides instruction to special needs children who are part of the classroom dynamic.
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Proficiency in maintaining efficient classroom management skills.
• Conduct yourself in a polite and professional manner with other staff members and building administrators.
• Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the classroom teacher’s curriculum or duties.
