Position Summary
Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel are individuals who under general supervision from an administrative superior, performs custodial duties to include overall building, grounds maintenance and repair functions.
Job Duties
Day to day job duties of Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel are determined by the Lead Maintenance superior or his/her designee, as they may vary depending upon the changing needs of the classroom(s), school(s), and/or school district. Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel of any capacity are subject to daily reassignment, depending on the needs of the day. The Custodian/Grounds/Plant Maintenance personnel must comply with the duties outlined by their superior.
Qualifications and Required Documents
Education: High School Diploma (Not required for Ephrata)
A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old **

Essential Functions
Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include duties which may be found in all positions of this class:
• Report to the Custodian Lead who is responsible for the direction of janitorial services.
• Can work cooperatively with others and/or work independently without supervision
• Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures along with refilling restroom dispensers.
• Sweep, mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; clean, dust and wipe furniture.
• Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
• Light maintenance duties (ex. replace light bulbs)
• Ability to use basic maintenance tools and machinery.
• Conducts a wide variety of ground maintenance to playgrounds, sports turf, fencing, paving and snow removal.
• Notify the administration of any potential safety dangers on school grounds.
• Other duties may be required that are not enumerated here that are part of the custodian’s duties.
