Substitute Teacher Service is hiring Nurses for the Cumberland Valley School District "CVSD".

 

Position Summary
A CVSD nurse is responsible for the medical supervision and health care of students and staff in the assigned school. Candidate should possess the knowledge required to ensure basic health services are available during the school day. This position must have the ability to work well with teachers, parents, and the school staff and have effective oral and written communication skills; all details listed here within the job description are subject to change, with or without warning, by the STS Site Supervisor.

Job Duties
Responsibilities include assessment and treatment within the scope of professional nursing practice, communication with parents, referral to physicians, and provision or supervision of prescribed nursing care. An individualized health care plan is developed for students with chronic conditions, and when appropriate, an emergency plan is developed to manage potential emergent events in the school setting (eg, diabetes, asthma). Ideally, this health plan is aligned with the management plan directed by the child's pediatrician and regularly updated through close communication. The school nurse is responsible for management of this plan and communication about the plan to all appropriate school personnel. The school nurse has a unique role in provision of school health services for children with special health needs, including children with chronic illnesses and disabilities of various degrees of severity.

 

Qualifications and Required Documents

  • Valid PA School Nurse Certification, RN or LPN License (based upon position and district) 
  • A Pennsylvania Criminal Records check (Act 34) that is clean and less than 5 years old **
  • A Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance History (Act 151) that is clean and less than 5 years old **

  • A FBI Criminal History Record that is clean and less than 5 years old **

  • Proof of a TB test or chest x-ray that is less than 3 months

Essential Functions
Essential duties and responsibilities of this position may vary in nature due to changes in schedule, student or district need, and include but are not limited to:

 

• Provides direct care to students and sometimes staff.
• Comply with school district policies and procedures and state laws relative to admin of medicine to students.
• Implements school health care plans for the purpose of providing appropriate care as directed by health care professional.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters
• Maintains student health records (manual and computerized) (e.g. immunization history, medication and contact log, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and complying with mandated requirements.
• Monitors health care plans for the purpose of addressing students' health needs and implementing health care directions from parents and/or physicians.
• Participates (when invited) in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, including IEP, for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.
• Participates in various emergency drills (e.g. lock downs, safety meetings, evacuation plans, crisis team, etc.) for the purpose of providing expertise in health related issues.
• Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. medication logs, compliance reports, student activities, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information.
• Reports incidents and students with contagious diseases for the purpose of maintaining students’ personal safety, and positive learning environment.
• Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of addressing immediate health and safety concerns.
• Must practice in accordance with the Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. Paraprofessional Handbook policies, and school district policies.
